I crafted my scaffolding with a kit of 8” tall ¼” thick dowels and used a grid system that was structurally sound. The plaster pieces were created from one plaster cube cured with balloons embedded inside and then cut up using a bandsaw.
The structure was composed in reference to a collage I had produced prior to constructing the accompanying scaffolding.
I incorporated green as a call back to the remnants of balloon imbedded in the larger cut circles. The colour application represents a break between the pieces as to suggest they are split into “new” relationships without physically breaking them.
The final model can be viewed from all sides, as I intentionally oriented the plaster pieces so each side had a variety of shape, texture and colour. I considered how light and shadow could be leveraged to emphasize depth within each piece, such as the punctured pockets, holes and shapes on each of the faces of the plaster.
