PAST SHOWS

As 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of SID's annual year end show, let’s take a look at the point of view from previous years' commemorative celebrations!

2023
POV

SID’s 2023 Year End Show, named POV, As designers, we have a unique ability to visualize and interpret different spaces, reframing spatial perception and intention. Through a multitude of drawing conventions, we can visually compose a narrative within an interior. Whether it be through isometric line drawings, carefully composed renders, or technical construction packages, each frame of reference plays a pertinent role in telling the story of a space. However, we must also ask ourselves how differing perspectives can shape the ways we experience interiors, lending emotion to each space that we create.

During our time at SID we are challenged to collaborate, communicate and convey our varying perspectives to achieve a holistic design. The practice of interior design allows us to experience space from another’s perspective, communicating in a language we all speak.

The School of Interior Design’s [SID] Year End Show [YES] invites you to leave all preconceptions behind, and see things from our point of view.

2022
Un/Filtered

SID’s 2022 Year End Show, named Un/Filtered, welcomes you to put aside your perception of perfection and embrace the reality of the design process. Individuality shines through when we disregard the need for perfection and allow our ideas to materialize into reality. We believe that a focus on transparency allows us to value a diverse range of perspectives and celebrate who we are as designers. Un/Filtered is a design platform where none is judged nor adjusted to align with social expectations. Here, getting your hands dirty is encouraged and the fear of failure is unheard of. Join us for sketches on the wall, tracing paper on the floor and late nights in the studio. (Warning: it gets a little messy).

2021
Re-vision

School of Interior Design's 2021 Year End Show, Re-vision, responds to these new paradigms and strives to forge new narratives that influence a positive difference in the community. The show bridges the digital and physical realms to establish a platform where the designers of the future can push forth new paths that are inclusive, barrier-breaking, and revolutionary.

Start of the new decade!

2020
Archive

School of Interior Design’s 2020 Year End Show; Archive, inscribes our time and announces a new beginning in the design narrative. As 2020 marks the dawn of a new decade, we reflect on the evolution of SID and the works that have been created over time. Every moment that design is produced, a new iteration is engraved in history and becomes a precedent for future works. Through our modern interpretation of archiving, we showcase current works and honour every student’s potential to be a catalyst in design innovation.

2019
Connections

SID’s 2019 Year End Show, explores the importance of connections between disciplines, identities, and ideas which all give meaning to design. Our goal of the show is to initiate a conversation about our industry’s deeply connected world. Student work will be curated to display the different ways in which ideas can be collaborated upon, how unique identities emerge through student exploration and the connections between different design disciplines.

2018
Process

Process builds the foundation for design. The School of Interior Design's 2018 Year End Show aims to reveal the progression and succession of our creative journey from point A to B. We are shaped by our actions and our identity can be found in our development. We acknowledge and celebrate different creative processes and workflows, moving thoughts and ideas forward to identify students, thus identifying the school.

2017
Shift

School of Interior Design’s 2017 Year End Show aims to shift perceptions of interior design through education and immersive spatial experiences. The goal of the show is to acknowledge the creative, dynamic, and technical elements that are part of our industry's process. The show will educate the community on how design innovation and implementation can impact out immediate environment and daily lives. Shift will explore forms of design through integrated processes and dynamic spatial alterations.

2016
Dialogue

A vibrant exchange of ideas flow within the world of design. This movement creates a dialogue in which past principles of design can harmonize with the newly developed values we cherish today. By narrowing down key elements, we are able to broadly collaborate within a wide range of creative industries, gaining multiple original perspectives. The layering of crafts from hand-drafting to advanced technologies is two forms of design that are greatly linked and are celebrated for their own unique strengths. By merging these approaches, we create a balance. Dialogue will realize these principles and will continue to fabricate these innovations in design.

2015
YESxSID

The 2015 Year End Show, YESxSID, is motivated to showcase the School of Interior Design as a multifaceted design community by exploring the rising potential of SID students, the collaboration of designers and how these elements come together to create a dynamic studio environment.
