“Preservation of the past through transforming it” is a speculative way of realizing and engaging with history through unique preservation.
According to The Specular Spectacle House of the Collector by Helene Furján, Sir John Soane's Museum was created as a visual representation of the past, and its history allows viewers to transport themselves into the past. Engaging meaningfully with the history of buildings and site conditions is particularly important in a city like Toronto. Many older buildings, such as Massey Hall in Toronto, are embedded with significant historical features. This model particularly preserves the interior/ void of the hall with plaster and selectedly cuts the volume, and adds fragments of windows. This might be a more impactful way to tell the narrative rather than showing every aspect of old buildings/ just exteriors and can be used in the future.
