Based on Act 3 Scene 1 of Orpheus and Eurydice, this scene portrays the tunnel from the underworld back to Earth as a utopian desert sculpted by the gods. As Orpheus leads Eurydice back to earth, he must travel through the seemingly never-ending tunnel and resist the urge to look into her eyes, or else she will die once more. An hourglass inspires the design to emphasize this space as transitional and untethered in time. Organic curvature, smoothed stone, and soft hills of sand create an environment that compliments the romance and longing between the two lovers. Through the fog and blowing sand, Orpheus must decide if it is worth the risk to catch even a glimpse of Eurydice.
