Mergence twists existing site features, everyday experiences, histories, traditions and art concepts into a proposed intervention in Toronto's PATH. It falls into place at the Toronto Eaton Centre Bridge, a pedestrian crossover above ground level. The spiralling structure links two distinct buildings, enhancing contemporary and historical construction. The client, Akin Collective, is an artist-run organization open to all, focussing on affordable and inclusive studio spaces. Considering both, an exploration of contemporary art and display juxtaposed with classical practice appears and asks how the two merge. Ultimately, the new intervention revives the old by connecting users with the past and present.
