As a designer, I recognize the dangerous linear cycle that plastic happens to be a part of. Polyethylene waste is not a circular cycle but a linear process that consists of take, make, waste. In order to encourage circular economies, we must explore the many uses of plastics that are a part of built environments. Personally, I became fascinated with transportation plastics and plastics used in construction. Hardware stores that transport wood happen to use around 4 square meters of thin high density polyethylene to wrap the product while being transported to the store from the facility. I made use of the plastic by knotting it into an adaptable comfort seat. Below the knots are two high density plastic ropes, normally used to tie wood and is now being re-purposed as a safety support net. The recycled wood frame is held together by two PVC pipes. Throughout this project, I managed to re-use 3 different types of polyethylene products that all have different densities.
