In Preciado's reading, the concept of immunity and community is analyzed in relation to social structures and how communities are constructed. Preciado describes a hierarchical system in which the immune are at the top and those who are not immune are at the bottom. In other words, in our society, those who are wealthy are perceived to be immune. The diptych portrays a community that is segregated based on social class with the school being the divider/center. In the center, there is a public school where students from different communities and classes interact. On one side of the diptych, there are the privileged, or immune which is shown through real estate and large properties. On the other side, the minority, or de-immunized are cluttered together with fewer resources (a road, landscape). The mingling of these two groups at school can be strange and or uncanny as different values and habits could be considered unnatural to the other. However, at the end of the day, there is a clear separation between the two classes when it comes to the mode of transportation back home. The immune community has the privilege of being picked up by car and driven home, while the marginalized are left with no choice but to walk back home. Overall, the diptych compares two social class communities of the upper class and lower class.
