Sweet Release is from 1996. It is a jazz style dance that runs for 30minutes. Sweet Release is a story of a man and woman and the temptations that threaten theirromance which is driven by jazzman WyntonMarsalis’ Jazz Score. A combination of rhythm, mood, and dramatic contrast. Highlighting Judith Jamison’s piece “Sweet Release” I explore the animations of bodies and the sentiment of being held & supported. In this scene of Sweet Release the juxtaposition of dark and bright shadows reveal the contrast of emotion between the one being held and the other person who is supporting. The main structure stemming from the analysis of the movement between the two dance partners is the emotive quality that is nourished by the light. The almost chiaroscuro effect personifies the struggle between the man and woman - between the love of his life and the strength of his love for her.
