Inspired by J.M.W. Turner's The Fighting Temeraire, the Emotive Object and Envelope explore interactions with light in multiple conditions and draws from Turner’s fascination with painting light and the complexity of light’s interaction with water. The Emotive Object inquires the juxtaposing relationship between static geometric structure and ever-changing kinetic response to the spatial environment. The Envelope encases the Emotive Object as its vessel and maintains a kinetic dialogue that responds to a variety of atmospheric light conditions. It is in those conditions that the Emotive Object and Envelope become a ‘Magical Obiekt’: a magnetic attractor of emotions that echoes the painting’s passionate narrative and emphasizes the profound emotive influence of space on us as emotional beings, independent from functionality.
