My Emotive Object was inspired by Jean-Honoré Fragonard’s frivolous and romantic painting called, The Swing. In this project, I experiment with new materiality to recreate the motion of the swinging dress as it flows mid-air on a swing. The process entailed pouring hot melted wax over a wire mesh dipped under water and moving it in a way that mimicked the movement of a swing. The way the wax erupts as it touches the water reminded me of the free and uncontrolled behavior of the fabric as it flows mid-air on the swing, leading me to use this material to showcase the movement of the dress.
