Dwelling is commonly understood to apply to living, breathing creatures and humans. However, this project revisits what it means to “dwell” in the world and investigates how the concept of dwelling is not limited to just living things but is also embodied in inanimate objects and structures in our environment. This project draws upon the philosophical idea of the Fourfold that states the very existence of a person, animal, object or structure is inherently connected to the sky and its elements, the earth and its elements, mortality and divinity. No element in this world exists independently of the fourfold and its very existence draws upon each of these four ideas. The assemblage born out of the found objects takes its role in the world as a character that dwells among us. Can you guess the character?
