Located in the underground portion of Roy Thompson Hall, Akin studios utilizes the linear path to house artist studio spaces. The existing building's concrete structure informed the overarching design. Frosted glass panes act as a barrier for the artists all while illuminating and creating a sense of intrigue for patrons of the path. These panes are choreographed in a way that informs directionality. Custom benches fit in between the glass panes to pause the primary function of the path and create a spot for viewing resident artist work. All furniture pieces were designed to mimic the balancing act of heavy concrete elements atop thin wall planes, a concept integral to the space.
