Archive is a collaborative, multifunctional furniture piece designed for work, rest and socializing. Situated in 401 Richmond, we were inspired by the existing structure, particularly the windows, as well as the rich history. The shape of the window encouraged the direction of form for this furniture, creating a playful balance of arches and lines. This is also emphasized in the puzzle-like nature of our furniture, allowing several of these booths to be put together creating rhythm and continuity. Most importantly, Archive tells the story of the history of 401 Richmond. 401 Richmond, originally a tin lithography factory, is now turned into a restored arts center. With the material tin being used in hidden parts of the furniture, we aim to create moments of historical recognition where old is uncovered by the new.
